I am often asked "why healthcare and why the Philippines ?".

It is widely known that the cultural heritage of my country places great emphasis on hospitality, as well as the nurture and care of others. It is less well known that there is a rich cross cultural heritage between healthcare in the United States and the Philippines.

The Philippine Nursing industry was founded by American nurses at the begining of the last century. Current patient care practices and nursing education are based on those early foundations. In addition, many Philippine doctors did, and still do, their medical degrees and internships in the United States.

As a Filipino-American living in the Bay Area of San Francisco, I am blessed with a lot of things, and so I thought it was time to get serious about giving something back. A modicum of good sense, a good business background, a dose of good luck, and a large portion of Catholic guilt, brought me to where we are today.

I am proud of what we have been able to achieve in such a short period of time. I am also proud of our young staff in Manila, whose dedication and enthusiasm inspires us all to do more, and to do it better.

Our biggest source of inspiration is the dedication and commitment of our nurses. They make great sacrifices of time and effort to build a better life for their families by building a new career in the United States. In doing so, they bring with them the cultural traditions of their families. Their new careers also mean that the family left behind also prospers, for it is the Philippine tradition, that the more fortunate members of the family help and support the others who may not be as fortunate.

Thus they help build the Philippines greatest export - it's people.
